While my friend was putting the valve covers back on an and doing an oil service on the car he took the oil filter off and the whole housing inside was smashed. It wasn't circulating properly.
He reckons that there is a breather or over flo of some description that goes right above the front cylinder in the engine. (he isnt an expert on these engines but knows a bit) Maybe the oil wasn't flowing properly and the engine was getting too much oil and it had to get rid of it???

If this is the problem then I will be sending a solicitors letter to the main dealers and will be claiming all my expenses etc back. The new oil filter housing was £150.00 on top of 2 garages inspecting the car and the labour for the gaskets to be fitted.
